Having been already gifted a rollover Bell, the Church has been unable to erect a Bell Tower to hold this newly aqcuired Bell so that they may ring out all the weddings and church services.
As Anglican Men and Women, we have taken on the project of gathering funds, designing and constructing a Bell Tower for a Historical Precinct, as well as the shipping and logistics of getting the materials to Thursday Island (likely out of the Port of Brisbane, or Townsville) so that they can be constructed at the All Saints Church allowing them to ring that bell into the future and for future generations.
In a not so straight forward project, given the remote location compared to the rest of Australia, travelling into the far north of Queensland and into its Cape Country. With Soldier Settlements initially in defence of the coast line against invasion, their is a large ANZAC history throughout the Queensland Coast from Brisbane all the way to the Tip of the Cape. Still only accessible by four wheel drive, and large trucks, the Pennisula Development Road is a long and arduous track now being turned into the Pennisula Highway to support mining all the way through the cape.
Due to this arduous and impossible journey, the gift of a Bell Tower would need to arrive by Barge or Large Ship to the Jetties on Thursday Island. Venturing forward we seek the support of many different types of businesses along the way, from builders, carpenters, electricians, engineers, cranes, trucking and shipping and that doesnt include the technicalities of stepping through such a large project which would include, Torres Shire Council, The Anglican Church, Heritage Queensland, Heritage within the Anglican Church, Local Parishes, Local Priests, Bishops and their Communities, and likely much more.
The grounds on which the church was built are under Heritage Queensland with Historical positions in the Anglican Church also responsible for this heritage site. Built after the sinking of a ship that had left Brisbane and was on its way out of Australian waters, had troubles and sunk rapidly taking on water and falling into the sea in several minutes. Most of the crew and passengers went down with the ship, with survivors finding themselves on the very tip of Queenslands Cape. A church was built on Thursday Island with a settlement near Bamaga on the mainland tip.
Being consider a Heritage site, some attention to detail, and the respect for the story and conditions of what is from the past, our goal is not to disturb any of the current grounds, or its monuments. With the need for a bell tower, this newly added project needs to fit in with the current heritage and layout of the site as it is, there can be no modifications to the church, its buildings or the monuments around it. All proposals need to be approved by all the various offices starting with the Anglican Church. Offering your services can be done through contacting our project managers.
We open the floor to your design proposals. Given the Historical aspects and the grounds around the church on Thursday Island, we challenge you to design a bell tower and its foundations so that many a wedding or church event can take place around your designs.
Send your designs to administrator@belltowerproject.com
Keeping with the style of the Anglican Church throughout Queensland in Australia, we urge you to have a search online at the various designs and factor in the history already present throughout what spans over two hundred years.
Design and material choice of a Bell Tower that will accomadate a rolling Church Bell, this tower should be considered similar to a water tower, and hold up to 5000kg
Submit your proposals to our Lead Builder so that we can put the best proposals forward to the Church and to the People of Thursday Island.
Throughout Australia, there are a large number of heritage buildings belonging to the Anglican Church, and over the years due to the restraints on dealing with Heritage, they often lack maintenance.
Our main goals, are to support the Anglican Church both physically and financially throughout Australia to be able to give these sites better attention to maintenance and repair, but as well as acknowledgment for their history, and the communities around them.
100%, all of the funds provided go into an account put aside specifically for these projects, all work is voluntary, and all funds are to go into the Historical Precinct in which we are operating.
